The story, as a puzzle

A balloon for the Pole.
On 11 July 1897, three Swedes lifted off from a wooden hangar on this Arctic island in a hydrogen balloon, hoping to drift over the North Pole. They vanished; their last camp was found 33 years later. Pin the island.
