Golden Bay / Mohua, New Zealand
Abel Tasman named it Murderers’ Bay. The name Golden Bay came in the 19th century, after gold was found nearby.
The story, as a puzzle
A bloody first meeting.
In December 1642, the first Europeans to reach New Zealand anchored in this bay. Māori canoes rammed one of their boats and four Dutch sailors were killed; the captain sailed away without ever landing. Pin the bay.
